Downtown Danbury is all aglow for the holidays. At the official Light The Lights ceremony this past Saturday night, a large crowd assembled in Library Plaza to share in some holiday spirit. With a flick of the ceremonial switch, the holiday lights strung above Main Street from White Street to just past West Street came to life.
The St. Peter’s Church Children’s Chorus and St. Joseph’s Children’s Chorus sang a medley of holiday tunes on the library steps. There was a fire truck parade down West Street onto Main Street, with Santa arriving on the final truck to greet local families. Children eagerly lined up waiting for a turn to visit with him. Mrs. Claus was also on hand passing out cookies.
We love the lights this year. They are reminiscent of the way they did it in the 1950s here in the Hat City. They add just a touch of holiday wonder to our urban center. If you get the chance, take a drive down Main Street this holiday season.
